We can so happy to announce that this week’s winner in the Made in Bury Weekly £2000 Draw James Round with ticket number 22211. Congratulations from us all.

It was absolutely brilliant to be able to get James’s wife, Christine, and the company he works for, Essity based at Stubbins in Ramsbottom, involved in making the surprise a success. Chrissy bought her ticket back in May 2021 after a flyer was dropped off where she works at Velvet in Ramsbottom. She decided to get herself a ticket and also treat her husband to a secret ticket too.

Chrissy was at work when she got the call off Leanne to tell her that her husband’s ticket was this week’s winning number. She was so happy and overjoyed he had won, and this is where the plan started to surprise James later in the evening.

After speaking with Mike who works on security he passed Leanne’s details on and within no time at all Deborah Friend from Essity called Leanne to help facilitate the operation! We already knew that James started work at 7pm but Deborah informed us he gets to work a little earlier so we knew we had to get there before he did, she also sent an email round to the Shift Managers to let them know as well what was going to happen.

Chrissy said she could barely contain her excitement and told James that she was going to go for a walk, but really she was meeting us there for the reveal. We hid behind the security cabin and as James walked past he spotted us, but had no idea why we were there. Leanne explained what the Made in Bury Weekly £2000 Draw was and that every Wednesday someone wins £2000 and that he was this weeks winner! James was in complete shock and couldn’t believe it.

James has worked at the Stubbins Mill for almost 20 years in the maintenance department. Essity are a leading global hygiene and health company, the Stubbins Mill first started making paper in 1911 and is well-known by the local people in the area. Essity manufactures paper and hygiene products including popular household brands Cushelle toilet roll, Velvet toilet roll and Plenty household towels. Today Essity’s Stubbins site makes Tork paper products using 100% recycled fibre and employs more than 60 people. The mill is proud of its roots and regularly contributes to local community initiatives through funding, sponsorship, product donations and volunteering. It has recently donated products to help Bury Hospice, the Burnley Bobcats Swimming Club and several local foodbanks supporting individuals and families during the pandemic.

Chrissy has worked for Velvet in Ramsbottom for 2 and a half years. Velvet have been in the heart of Ramsbottom for 12 years now, opening a 2nd shop in 2018, as well as having a shop online. Deborah the owner of Velvet would like to thank the local customers for always being so loyal, especially throughout lockdown.

James and Chrissy are going to Turkey so the winnings will go towards a well deserved holiday for them. Thank you again to everyone involved in pulling off the surprise for James.
