East Lancashire Railway is one of the most recognised and respected railways in the North of England. With its traditional history and regular events, it's no surprise that they were Highly Commended in the Leisure and Tourism awards at the Made in Bury Business Awards.

East Lancashire Railway may have been built in the 19th Century but it continues to break the boundaries and come up with innovative ideas to ensure that it still attracts a large amount of customers. Many of the old railways from that period are closed and abandoned, but this local railway continues to thrive.

A kids' club has just been launched by East Lancashire Railway. This new scheme will allow children to travel for free on weekends. Parents who join the kids' club will receive offers, giving them the chance to save money on journeys! They have also welcomed a new member of staff - in the form of railway mascot Buffers.

Buffers, the friendly East Lancashire Railway cat, will be present throughout the summer weeks and busy periods, to entertain children and pose for pictures. The mascot's name was chosen a by three year old Macie, as part of a recent competition. Macie, a regular to the railway, won a family ticket to the East Lancashire Railway's famous annual event - Day out with Thomas! How exciting!

East Lancashire Railway were Highly Commended in their category at the very prestigious, Made in Bury Business Awards and, they've had a very busy year since!
